Today is Friday, and the perfect winter day in New York City. The sun is shining, it's cold enough for all of my favorite warm winter garb and I have the entire day to explore.
I've been here for about five days, and considering that I've worked until 6pm the past three days, this is really my first opportunity to scope out the land, live like a local and meet people outside of work and the subway. Oh how blissful it is.
My new favorite place, the B-Cup Cafe (my current location at this very moment) is perhaps less than fifty feet from my front door and the perfect place for cheap coffee, excellent music and good looking people. I'm starting to really love it here in my neighborhood...and this is only the beginning. Yes, I'm an annoying distance from the major subway lines, but I am in the epicenter of thriving, talented, artsy type people quite like myself. It's just so strange to me that this is it. I've worked for so long to achieve this and for the past four years it was merely a dream that seemed a bit out of reach.
This still feels like a vacation, however false that may be. Of course I miss my friends back in Ohio, but it's truly a very small world and they have not disappeared from my life in any respect at all. This weekend should be terrific. It's time to have some fun, meet people and enjoy the city from a fresh local perspective.
I just want everyone to know that I am doing tremendously although the events of the past month have been a roller coaster of change in my life, I am fine, at least for the time being, and for now, it seems that things can only get better.
