part one: complete!

YES! Part 1 (of 3) in foundation is complete!

Assessment was this morning, and I must say that the outcome was quite shocking. The head of the fine art department reviewed everything I've done thus far and gave me really high marks. It is certainly the truth that all those sleepless nights and anxiety are worth it. THIS is why I came to art school. I realize more and more everyday that I am a) extraordinarily lucky to have this opportunity and b) that I really and my happiest self when I'm making art.

That said, I will be continuing on foundation with a specialization in sculpture. Yes, I will spend the rest of the year in sculpture--not fashion, not any type of design...sculpture! Almost immediately when the school year started I realized that what interests me about fashion is not actually the design part of it, it's actually the making. That said, I've chosen to pursue sculpture because what I really want to do is learn how every material possible works, how it can be manipulated, how it can be used to create anything. In fashion, you're limited to working on the body and working primarily in fabric--and I just want to work in every medium! We'll see where this goes--I just think that the skills I'd acquire in sculpture can and will apply to any form of art that I'd want to do.

So, for now, there's no class for the rest of the week which means thanksgiving party, 4 nights of live music, christmas festivals, ice skating (in the lawn of a palace!), and hat making.

Oh, it's going to be a good week!

*u* (that's a smiley face)

So life isn't so bad after all. I just arrived back from Paris yesterday...what a lovely trip it was! Macaroons, perfect weather, bicycle rides along the river, amazing food, endless art galleries--it couldn't have been any better.

Back to reality.

I've got one more week until my end of term assessment which means non-stop art from now until the 25th. A few American friends and I are hosting a little Thanksgiving party, which happens to fall perfectly right AFTER assessment--what a nice way to end a term. On December 12th I'll be back home in Ohio--I'm sooo looking forward to seeing our decorated house on 5th street and my family and the cats!

Oh how I love Paris. There's no doubt in my mind that I'll live there one day.

big apologies...

...because it's taken me so long to write here!

Oh has it been crazy lately! I'm on a different four week unit for school right now--two weeks in graphic art and two weeks in fine art. My time in graphics just came to an end, but in those two weeks I had to complete 5 whole projects! Starting tonight I'm going to be posting my art at www.mynameiscaroline.tumblr.com --so bookmark that one if you're interested! I'm tired of having all of my art photos scattered and having to explain to my mom what I'm doing, so there you go!

Things should be much easier from now until Christmas, I've got a feeling--although I have to start thinking about applying for my BA course for next year (very very very terrifying thought).

Sadly because I've been working working working lately, I haven't had the time for much fun. For halloween, I went to a Kitsune warehouse party (french fashion brand/record label)--AMAZING. And this week I didn't get to do much of anything at all--it's so crazy to think that my first term is almost over and that I'll be back in Ohio for Christmas. In the meantime, my friend Jackie (who is Korean-American) and I are hosting a Thanksgiving party and there are a few gigs and parties on the agenda. It should be a really productive and fun month ahead.

No crazy news for today--I'll be updating all of my blogs by this evening hopefully and Jackie and I are going on a window shopping spree at DOVER STREET MARKET--the most unbelieveable experimental department store in the whole world. Oh how I wish I could buy everything! And since it's sunny we're going to my favorite place, Primrose Hill and perhaps someplace nice for dinner. Oh it will be a lovely day!

Next week I start my fine art unit--my very very favorite! We're doing a 2D/3D project of our choice and a 4D video project also, both inspired by a film, the 5 Obstructions. Updates to come!
